Shangqiu Minquan power station (国电商丘民权热电厂) is an operating power station of at least 1260-megawatts (MW) in Sunliu, Minquan, Shangqiu, Henan, China with multiple units, some of which are not currently operating.

Background
The two existing coal-fired units of Shangqiu Minquan power station, totaling 1,260 MW, were brought online in 2008. The plant was originally owned by China Guodian.[1]
Expansion
Guodian is currently planning to build two additional coal-fired units at this plant, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW.[2]
With no updates since 2012, plans for the units appeared to be abandoned.
However, in June 2022, the second phase of 2 x 1000 MW was listed in Shangqiu City's 14th Five-Year Plan on Energy Sector(《商丘市“十四五”现代能源体系和碳达峰碳中和规划 （征求意见稿）》). Instead of supercritical, the units would now be ultra-supercritical.[3] In October 2022, the local government was actively pushing the project forward.[4]
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[5][6] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[7]
