Background

The Nippon Setouchi Works (Hirohata Area) steel plant began operating in 1939.[1] It previously had 3 basic oxygen furnaces, but they were shut down.[1] A 2300 ttpa electric arc furnace expansion is in the works, with a completion date of 2022.[1]

In 2023, the company announced another EAF addition to the plant. The details of the same are not known.[2]
