Background

The Industries Qatar Steel plant began operating in 1974 with a direct reduced iron (DRI) plant and has since added other DRI and electric arc furnaces (EAF) plants as well, with the three newest EAFs being added in 2014 (see "Detailed production equipment" below).[1] According to Dohaty, it was the first factory to produce steel in the Arab Gulf states.[2] Little recent news or information on the plant is available; no environmental noncompliance or safety incidents seemed to have occurred at the Industries Qatar Steel plant in recent years.
