Background

Kalinin Coal Mine is a coal mine in Horlivka, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. According to the Institute for War and Peace Reporting, most Donbas region mines were seized by Russians and pro-Russian rebels in late 2014 and many have endured electricity shortages and flooding ever since. Many are likely non-operational and on hiatus.

It was part of the State Enterprise Donetsk Coal Energy Company, but from June 2019, it became part of Makeevugol State Enterprise - an entity held by the Ministry of Energy of the unrecognized Donetsk People's Republic.

Fire broke out in the mine in August 2020 and it was partially flooded, although it was planned to restart mining operations. Without further news on the mine's operations, the mine is regarded as mothballed.
