Background

The Kongora coal mine was a proposed UNDERGROUND mine in Canton 10, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The mine project intended to supply coal to Kongora Thermal Power Plant, considered cancelled (as of 2022). The lignite deposit was explored to fuel the proposed mine-mouth Kongora Thermal Power Plant. The power station proposal was investigated by Elektroprivreda Hrvatske zajednice Herceg Bosne (Elektroprivreda HZHB), a publicly owned power utility in Bosnia and Herzegovina.[1]

The proposed plant cost 1.1 billion euros near Tomislavgrad. Elektroprivreda HZHB estimated that the plant would require approximately 3.6 million tonnes of lignite a year from the as yet undeveloped adjoining Kongora lignite deposit.[2]
