The Medapalli Coal Mine is an opencast mine operated by Singareni Collieries Company Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, in the village of Meddapalli, Mandal Ramagundam, District Peddapally, State Telangana, India.

According to the Government of India's Ministry of Coal, the mine is scheduled to close in 2022-2023 due to exhaustion of its coal reserves.[1][2]

Background

The Medapalli Opencast Coal Mine has a designed capacity of 4.09 MTPA mine on an area of 1171.55 Ha.[3]

The mine received its first environment clearance for a capacity of 1.25 MTPA over the ML area 1171.55 Ha on 22 June 1992 and then received environment clearance for expansion to 4.09 MTPA on 2 July 2008 over the same ML area.[4]
