Background

Millenium Coal Mine, also known as the Millenium and Mavis Downs Coal Mine is a coal mine in Mackay, Queensland, Australia. Peabody Energy Australia formally operated the mine. It ceased operations in May 2020. In April 2021, MetRes Pty, a joint venture of Stanmore Coal and M Resource, acquired the Millennium and Mavis Downs coal mine and appointed a subsidiary M Mining Pty as the operator.

Peabody ceased production in 2020 and in 2021, the new owners opened it and converted it to an underground operation with a 1.2 million tonne capacity.
