Background on Plant

ARS Metals has a captive power station of 60 MW in Gummidipoondi taluk, which has been in operation since August 2013.[1][2]

Expansion

In 2011 ARS Metals received Environmental Clearance for two units of 60 MW each, but ultimately built only one unit. In 2014 the company applied for a larger expansion plan, this time proposing to add a unit 2 of 180 MW and unit 3 of 300 MW - a proposed 480 MW expansion overall to their existing 60 MW power station.[3][4]

In September 2014 ARS received a terms of reference for unit 2 of 135 MW and unit 3 of 350 MW.[5] An EIA was submitted in July 2015.[1]

As of December 2019 the units have not received environmental clearance. Plans appear deferred or abandoned.

Financing

In April 2011, a financing agreement for the project was closed.[6] Information on funders and amounts is not available.
