Background

In August 2025, Caribe LNG announced a strategic financing partnership with ArtCap Strategies around the development of "Colombia’s first fast-track [floating storage unit (FSU)]-based LNG import terminal." The terminal is expected to begin operations in 2026. Caribe LNG promoted the project as improving Colombia's energy security in response to declining domestic gas production and hydroelectric reliability issues.[2]

Caribe LNG FSU is a proposed modular LNG import, storage, distribution, and regasification platform in Colombia. The project is being developed by Caribe LNG LLC, which describes itself as a joint venture between Course2 Energy, Six One Commodities, and Andalusian Energy.[3] Earlier project materials described Course2 Energy and Andalusian Energy as sponsors, while in January 2026 Six One Commodities announced that it had closed a strategic minority equity investment in Caribe LNG and signed LNG supply agreements for the project’s initial phase.[4]

The project is not a conventional FSRU. Caribe LNG describes its model as an integrated system combining offshore LNG storage, coastal transfer, inland logistics, and regasification.[3] Its announced project components include a 162,000 m³ floating storage unit (FSU) in the Golfo de Morrosquillo, an LNG transfer system, a roll-on/roll-off LNG barge, LNG road tankers, and onshore regasification. Caribe LNG says the configuration will allow gas to be injected into Colombia’s national transport system while also allowing LNG road tankers to supply large industrial users or satellite facilities.[3]

For the initial phase, Six One Commodities agreed to supply up to 51,000 MMBtu/day of LNG (other sources report around 60 MMcf/d).[5][4] Caribe LNG and Six One Commodities describe the platform as scalable, with potential expansion to 180,000 MMBtu/day through later phases.[3][4] Caribe LNG lists several project milestones as complete or underway, including a signed LNG supply agreement for Phase 1, a secured FSU, completed LNG transfer equipment fabrication, an FSU mooring authorization, a port operations contract with Compas Tolú, a land transportation agreement, completed Phase 1 onshore LNG equipment fabrication, and site preparation for the onshore regasification facility.[3]
