Liancheng-2 power station (连城发电厂) is a 600-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Gansu Province, China.
Location
The map below shows the plant, in Liancheng, Yongdeng County, Lanzhou Prefecture, Gansu Province. The demolished Liancheng-1 power station was located immediately to the north of the site where Liancheng-2 is located.
Background on Plant
Liancheng-2 power station is a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 600 MW. The plant was completed between 2004 and 2005, and was owned by Datang.[1][2]
In June 2019 it was reported the plant had been shut down since April 2018, due to the bankruptcy of Datang Gansu Power Generation. The company applied for bankruptcy and liquidation after it defaulted on 16.44 million yuan (US$2.39 million) of debt.[3]
The power station changed ownership and was restructured. Thanks to the renewable base construction in the province, the plant was expected to serve as peaking units. In March 2022, a "resumption ceremony" was reportedly held.[4]
However, in June 2022, a rehabilitation or construction process still appeared underway.[5]
By December 2022, the plant was operating again.[6][7]
Ownership
In May 2020, State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) began a pilot project which allowed each of the five Central SOEs, central government-owned power giants presenting only in one province or autonomous region in 5 northwest provinces and autonomous regions. It was an effort by SASAC to improve the financial performance of the coal power companies in these 5 provinces and Autonomous regions. According to SASAC's arrangement, China Huaneng presents in Gansu. China Huadian leads Xinjiang. China Datang is in Shaanxi except those power companies belonging to China Energy Group. SPIC is in Qinghai. China Energy Group leads Ningxia. By the end of 2020, 10 coal power stations in Gansu had completed the transition. [8][9]This power plant completed the ownership transition to China Huaneng in April 2021.[10]
