Background

The first four coal-fired units of Panxian-2 power station, totaling 2,400 MW, were brought online between 2006 and 2007. The plant is sponsored by Yueqian Power Co., a subsidiary of Guangdong Yudean Group.[1] The electricity it generates supplies Guangdong Province.[2]

Description of Expansion

Plant owner Guizhou Yueqian Power Co is planning to build two additional coal-fired units at this plant, with a planned capacity of 660 MW each.[3][4][5][6]

There were no further developments on the proposed units after 2013, and they were likely suspended due to the country's traffic light policy, a national measure implemented in 2016 that prohibited new coal plant development throughout most of China's provinces, including Guizhou. However in March 2019 Guizhou was given a green light for new coal plants. In February 2020 it was announced that plans for development of the two units was revived.[7]

In 2023, with no further news, Phase III was presumed to be cancelled.
