Background

The project's permit application states the project would be co-located with an identically sized plant to be built by Jindal Steel & Power: "a common Coal Handling Plant will be located at 1.5 km and common Ash Pond will be located at about 5.5 km away from the plant site. A single location water reservoir will cater to both the plants. The captive power plant is for captive power requirement for the Integrated Steel Plants of capacities 6.0 MTPA and 5.0 MTPA located at Balkudra and Asanboni respectively. Coal requirement will be about 7.0 MTPA. Coal Block located about 13 kms away has been allotted jointly at Aamrkonda-Murgadangal Coal Block, which has a reserve of 410.0 MT. Coal transportation from mine to CHP will be through conveyor system over a distance of about 13 km. Water will be obtained from Brahmini and Dwarika River for JSPL and from Brahmini River for GPL." The project received a terms of reference in 2010.[1]

As of August 2014 the project appears to have been abandoned, since there is no mention of it on the Adhunik website, no news reports in over four years, and no application by the sponsor after receiving its ToR toward Environmental Clearance.
