Gujarat Industries Power Company is a power generation company initiated by the government of Gujurat but with its shareholders comprising the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (formerly the Gujarat Electricity Board), Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd, Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals Ltd and Petrofils Co-operative Ltd. The company has a total installed capacity of total present capacity of 810 megawatts (MW) from its current power plants.[1]

Coal power projects

In addition to the gas-fired Vadodara power station (210 MW) and a 5MW solar plant, Gujarat Industries Power Company operates the Surat Lignite Power Plant at at Nani Naroli in Surat district, Gujarat. The first 250MW was commissioned in November 1999 with two additional 125MW units commissioned in April 2010. On its website the company states that the government of Gujarat "has consented to allot 500 MW Expansion Phase-3 also to Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited and the Site Selection, Environmental Clearance, and Engineering Activities by consultants for the same are in progress."[2]
