Background
In June 2013, Bereket Enerji applied for permits to build the "Güneybatı Anadolu" (i.e. "Southwestern Anatolia") 660-MW coal-fired power plant in Muğla province.[1]
At a public meeting in July 2013, several prominent politicians — including Turkish Minister of Energy & Natural Resources Taner Yıldız, of the ruling AKP — criticized the plant, with Minister Yıldız pointing out that there were already three coal-fired units located within a few miles of the proposed plant's location.[2]
With no news on the plant since the opposition, plans appear to be shelved.
