Shenhua Haerwusu Surface Mine (中国神华能源股份有限公司哈尔乌素分公司(哈尔乌素露天矿)) is located in the east of Xujiawan Town of Jungar Banner, Inner Monogolia, China. It is managed by the Haerwusu Branch Company of China Shenhua Energy.

Coal Mine Background

November 25, 2005, the Shenhua Harwusu Surface Mine Project was officially approved by the National Development and Reform Commission[1], becoming the largest open-pit mine in China.It is also one of the key coal mines of China's "11th Five-Year Plan". The construction of Harwusu Surface Mine started in May 2006, and was completed and put into operation in December 2008. [2] As of January 2022, the mine's approved production capacity is 35 million tons per year.[3]
