The power station is owned by Tokyo Electric Power Company.[2]

Construction of the first unit (1,000 MW) began in July 1999 and was commissioned in December 2003.[3][4]

The commercial operation of Unit 2 of Hitachinaka Thermal Power Station (1,000 MW) commenced Dec 18, 2013.[5]
