Holfontein coal prospect
|This article is part of the Global Coal Mine Tracker, a project of Global Energy Monitor.|
The Holfontein coal project is a proposed mine site in the Witbank Coalfield in South Africa. The owners of the deposit, Coal of Africa, sold the rights in 2017. There have been no updates on future development in the area and the project is likely shelved.
The map below shows the approximate location of the project.
On its website, Coal of Africa Limited states that "Holfontein is located near the middle of Sasol’s Secunda coal production area. It has remained undeveloped due to interpreted geological complexity."
