Background on Project
China Huadian has proposed the 700 MW power station. Environmental clearance was obtained in 2015. Commissioning is planned for 2017. The estimated cost is 3.562 billion yuan.[1][2]
Construction began in 2016.[3]
Project suspended by central government
In January 2017 China's National Energy Board directed the Guangdong Province to suspend or postpone nine coal projects in the province, including Nanxiong power station, due to excess coal capacity.[4]
For details, see China's 2016 Restrictions on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity.
Construction ongoing
Satellite imagery from Planet, February 2017 to March 2018 shows construction clearly ongoing at the plant.
The units appear on a July 2018 central government list of units allowed to come online in 2018.[5]
Unit 1 was commissioned in December 2018.[6]
Unit 2 was commissioned in July 2019.[7]
