Background on Project

Tianjin Nangang Cogen was proposed as a 3 x 170 MW coal plant in Binhai, Tianjin Prefecture, sponsored by China Huadian. The plant was permitted for construction in July 2016. A new EIA for the project was approved in January 2018.[1][2]

Construction began in November 2018.[3]

In November 2019, the capacity of the plant was reported as 3 x 350 MW.[4]

Two units appeared to begin operating in December 2021.[5][6]

As of July 2022, the third unit was expected online by May 2023 and the capacity still seemed to be 3 x 170 MW.[7]

On June 24, 2023, Unit 3 was commissioned.[8] The unit was described as the world's first supercritical double-extraction reheating backpressure unit.[9]
