Background on Mine

The Kakatiya Long Wall Underground Coal Mine Project is a 3.13 million-tonnes-per-annum underground mine, operated by Singareni Collieries Company Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, in village Basavarajupalli, Mandal Ghanpur, District Warangal, State Telangana, India. The mine first received its permission to operate with a capacity of 2.28 MTPA for which EC was granted on 6 August 2007. It received further expansion to operate with a peak capacity of 3.13 MTPA.[1]

In the next phase, in order to sustain continued supply of coal to 1100 MW Kakatiya Power Station of TSGENCO beyond 2019-20, Kakatiya Khani OC-III Project is proposed. This project is conversion of the existing Kakatiya Longwall Project into opencast on an area of 1336.64 ha with a total capacity of 4.23 MTPA, of which 3.75 MTPA from Opencast mine and 0.48 MTPA from UG mine will be produced.[2]
