Background

Hibiki LNG terminal is an LNG terminal in Kyushu, Japan.

The Hibiki LNG terminal became operational in 2014. The terminal supplies natural gas to households and major industrial consumers in northern Kyushu. The terminal has two 180,000 kiloliter LNG tanks and can accept LNG from the world's largest LNG carriers.

Expansion Background

In January 2019 Saibu announced that it was considering building two additional 230,000 cubic meter tanks at a cost of 36 billion yen (US$327 million). The expansion will increase gas storage but not import capacity.

There have been no development updates in over two years, and the expansion project is presumed shelved as of 2021.
