Background

The pipeline would be owned and operated by GSPL India Transco Limited (GITL). The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) authorized GITL to build the pipeline in July 2011.[7] The pipeline would transport 27.8 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the D6 gas fields in Krishna Godavari basin on the east coast of Andhra Pradesh to Bhilwara, Rajasthan, crossing 27 districts in four states: Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.[2]

In June 2019 GITL was granted an extension until March 2020 to finish construction of the pipeline by the Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).[8] As of March 2021, the project was listed as "partially commissioned" by PNGRB, with 365-kilometer Phase I in operation.[1]

Phase I was originally slated to become operational in 2020[1] but experienced delays.

Phase II is currently under construction with an expected start year of 2024.[6]
