Background

In 2014 Osaka Gas proposed a 112 MW thermal power station in the port city of Kashima, with a planned operation date of 2017-2018.[1]

The project is a joint venture with Marubeni Corp. In December 2015 Osaka Gas Co. said it may pull out of the project due to signs of nuclear restarts and increasing calls to reduce carbon dioxide from power generation. According to the Nikkei newspaper, Marubeni will examine the feasibility of the project while seeking a new partner.[2]

KEPCO replaced Osaka Gas as project partner. The plant is now planned for the city of Kamisu by 2018.[3]

In October 2018 the plant entered commercial operation.[4]
