Guangdong Shajiao power complex (深圳沙角电厂) is an operating power station of at least 1980-megawatts (MW) in Humen, Dongguan, Guangdong, China with multiple units, some of which are not currently operating. It is also known as 深圳能源沙角B电厂 (Unit B-1, Unit B-2), 粤电广东沙角A电厂 (Unit A-1, Unit A-2, Unit A-3, Unit A-4, Unit A-5, Unit A-6, Unit A-7), 粤电广东沙角C电厂 (Unit C-1, Unit C-2, Unit C-3).

Background
Shajiao power complex consists of three plants, Shajiao-A, B, and C. The entire plant had a total of ten operating units, totaling 3,970 MW, which were brought online between 1987 and 1996. Shajiao-A (3 x 210 MW, 2 x 330 MW, totaling 1,290 MW) is owned by Guangdong Yudean Group; Shajaio-B (2 x 350 MW, totaling 700 MW) is owned by Shenzhen Energy Group; and Shajiao-C (3 x 660 MW, totaling 1,980 MW) is owned by Guangdong Yudean Group.[8][9]
Shajiao-A Units 1-3 and Shajiao-B Units 1-2 are planned for retirement before 2020.[10]
Shajiao-A Unit 1[11] and Shajiao-B Unit 2 were retired in 2018.[12] Shajiao-A Units 2-3[13] and Shajiao-B Unit 1 were retired in 2019.[14]
A natural gas power plant is proposed to replace Shajiao-C coal units in 2025. [15] The project was originally planned to commence construction in June 2022, with Unit 1 scheduled for operation in September 2024, and Unit 2 planned for operation in December 2024. However, it has not yet entered the construction phase and is still in the pre-construction stage.[16]
Description of Expansion
Guangdong Yudean Group was planning to build two additional coal-fired units at Shajiao A power plant, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW.[17]
However, there appear to be no developments on the new units since 2013, and they are likely abandoned.
2016: Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity
Due to new restrictions announced during 2016 by the National Energy Administration and the National Development and Reform Commission, further capacity expansions at this location appear to be on hold or cancelled.
