Background of Shaoguan Power Station

Shaoguan power station was founded in 1958. The first 2 units with capacity of 12MW each started generation in 1962. The second phase totalling 100MW were brought online in 1965. In 1990's, 8 more units with total capacity 624MW were added to the power plant. In December 2008, unit 8 and 9, with 200MW each were retired. [1]

Shaoguan-1

The two existing coal-fired units of the Shaoguan-1 power station, totaling 600 MW (2 x 300 MW), were brought online in 2005. The units are numbered 10-11.[2][3]

Shaoguan-2

Guangdong Yudean Group is also sponsoring the two-unit coal-fired Shaoguan-2 plant at the same location, with a total planned capacity of 1,200 MW.[4]

The units began operating in 2014-2015.[5] [6]
