Background

In 1981, Siam Cement Ta Luang Cement Plant replaced the imported bunker oil used as fuel in cement production with domestically sourced lignite coal. The company also became the first cement producer in Southeast Asia to introduce a waste heat recovery system in 1989. Today, Siam Cement aims to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 20% by 2030 from a 2020 baseline and aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
