Background

In 1981, Siam Cement Ta Luang Cement Plant replaced the imported bunker oil used as fuel in cement production with domestically sourced lignite coal[3]. The company also became the first cement producer in Southeast Asia to introduce a waste heat recovery system in 1989[4]. Today, Siam Cement aims to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 20% by 2030 from a 2020 baseline and aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050[5].
