Simhapuri Energy Ltd is a subsidiary of the Madhucon Group. The company was established in 2005 to "develop, construct, operate and distribute power from coal based power projects in India."[1]
Thamminapatnam power station is a proposed 1920 megawatt (MW) coal plant being developed by Simhapuri Energy (SEPL) in the Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh. The project is being developed in three phases. Phase I comprises 2 units of 150 MW; Phase II comprises 2 units of 150 MW each; and Phase II comprises 2 Supercritical units of 660 MW each.[2]
On its website the company states that coal for the project "has been tied-up from Indonesia".[2] Another Madhucon Group subsidiary, PT Madhucon Indonesia, operates open-cut coal mines in Indonesia. The company states that it "owns two mining licenses in Indonesia, with one of them at South Sumatra which is having a coal reserve of 900 million tons. The coal has higher calorific value and less ash content compared to domestic coal."[3]
