Background

Telfers FSRU was to be included in an LNG-to-power project also involving the combined cycle gas-fired Telfers power station, which was originally proposed in 2013. Panama NG Power, a subsidiary of LNG Group Panama, was unable to reach financial close on the project, and in 2017 the project experienced further financial complications, leading to cancellation of its license by Panamanian authorities. The floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) was to allow for receiving imports, storage, regasification and distribution.[1]

As of March 2022, the Telfers power station (now renamed Gatún power station) was expected to be supplied with gas from the onshore Costa Norte LNG Terminal.[2] There has been no further news of the Telfers FSRU in more than four years, and the project is presumed to be cancelled.
