Background

Mitsubishi UBE Cement Corporation, initially formed as UBE Industries, Ltd. in 1897, began its operations as a chemical manufacturing company.In the 1920s, UBE Industries ventured into cement production as part of the country's rapid industrialization, establishing its cement division. This division later evolved into Mitsubishi UBE Cement Corporation, which now operates as a key player in the cement industry.[2]

The Ube Cement Plant, located in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan was established in 1959.[3]

In 2024, Mitsubishi UBE Cement Corporation initiated a joint examination into carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) for CO₂ emissions with Osaka Gas Co., Ltd., aiming at carbon neutrality in the cement manufacturing process.[4]
