Background

UltraTech Cement Limited is part of the Aditya Birla group. UltraTech Cement is the largest manufacturer of grey cement and ready-mix concrete (RMC) and one of the largest manufacturers of white cement in India.

Sonar Bangla Cement was a division of Century Textiles & Industries Ltd. UltraTech Cement Limited took over Century Textiles & Industries Ltd. on 1st October, 2019. UltraTech cement proposed the expansion of cement production capacity of existing stand-alone clinker grinding unit (2.0 to 5.0 million tonnes per annum) at Sonar Bangla Cement Works. The environmental clearance for the proposed expansion was granted in January 2022
