Background

UltraTech Cement Limited is part of the Aditya Birla group.[1] UltraTech Cement is the largest manufacturer of grey cement and ready-mix concrete (RMC) and one of the largest manufacturers of white cement in India.[2]

Grasim (Vikram Cement) was set up in mid 1980.[3] UltraTech merged the cement business of Indian Rayon and Grasim Cement in 1998.[3][4]

The first unit is of 0.5 million tons per annum (mtpa) and was commissioned in a record time of 18 months and commercial production started immediately afterwards achieving 88% capacity utilization in the very first year of its operation.[5] The second unit was commissioned in 1987 with a capacity of 0.5 mtpa. Capacity of both the units was enhanced to 0.75 mtpa each. Subsequently, one more unit of 1.0 mtpa was commissioned in the year 1991.[5] The plant has three operating line: Line 1, Line 2 and Line 3.[6] Vikram Cement has commissioned Captive Thermal Power Plant (2x23 MW) based on Pet Coke, Bituminous Coal and Lignite.[5]
