Background

In December 2022, Dutch energy company VTTI announced that it was planning to build a 5 billion cubic meter per year (bcm/y) floating LNG terminal. The company said that it was looking at two possible sites in the province of Zeeland, and that it was striving to bring the project online by early 2024.[1]

The company said it also plans to use the infrastructure for the import of green energy carriers such as hydrogen.[4]

In December 2023, VTTI announced that it would partner with Hoegh LNG on the development of the project, now called Zeeland Energy Terminal. The facility would begin importing gas and transition to hydrogen, the developers claim. The terminal is now planned for a maximum capacity of 7.5 bcm/y and a start-up date in the second half of 2027.[3]
