Background on Project
The 2 x 660 MW coal plant project was one of seven new coal plants listed in Guizhou Province's 14th Energy Development (2021-2025). In all, 25 new coal power projects were planned as of 2021.[1] The proposal was presumed to be a capacity replacement project for Xishui power station.
Unit 1 was permitted in October 2020.[2]
By October 2022, a feasibility study for the units was also completed.[3]
According to the Guizhou Province Coal Power Projects Three-Year Action Plan (2023-2025), construction of the power station started in October 2022.[4] However, the first pot of concrete was only poured into the main structure on 23 August 2023.[5][6][7]
China Energy Engineering Corporation was contracted to take up the project construction.[8][9] The plan stated that Unit 1 of the project was expected to be complete by 2024, and Unit 2 by 2025.[4]
