Background

In 1999, AES purchased six power plants in New York (including the Hickling power station) from NGE Generation, Inc. for $953 million.[1] The other stations included in the deal were AES Somerset, AES Cayuga, AES Greenidge, AES Westover, and AES Jennison.[1]

In 2005 the plant was on cold standby. AES said it plans to either install new pollution controls at the plant, or shut it down.[2]

The plant was retired in 2008.[3]
