Background
In December 2024, German-owned American Gas Partners (AGP) announced that it was planning to develop a US$7 billion, 7.2 mtpa floating LNG export facility in the United States. No further location was specified at this time. AGP plans to use the facility as one end of a "virtual pipeline" to Europe, as it will "provide end-to-end services to both US gas producers and end users in Europe." The developers said that they had signed one letter of intent for an LNG offtake agreement and were expecting others.[2]
A final investment decision is planned for 2025, with the project being operational four years afterwards.[2] The site for American Gas Partners provides a broader timeline, in which LNG is delivered to German customers between 2028 and 2032, and the project begins blending hydrogen as of 2032-2045.[3]
In February 2025, AGP signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Poland's Grupa Azoty toward developing a dedicated procurement platform that would connect US gas producers with European gas buyers, associated with the proposed LNG terminal.[4]
As of May 2026, AGP's website still lists a timeline that would have had the LNG terminal coming online in 2026.[3]
