Background

As of September 2022, construction of the new gas turbine unit was still ongoing, with the delayed planned start date of January 1st, 2023.[4][2] The installed gas turbine is Siemens SGT-800 which is a hydrogen-ready turbine.[4]

The main generation will be provided by the Siemens SGT-800 industrial gas turbine with a 50 MW electrical power generator. The SGT-800 combines a robust design with high efficiency and low emissions. Due to the high energy of the exhaust, this turbine is effectively used in combined cycles.

Exhaust hot gases (fuel combustion products) from the turbine will go to the waste heat boiler manufactured by Podolsk Machine-Building Plant JSC to generate steam with a pressure of 3.0 MPa and a temperature of 420 ° C in a volume of 70 tons per hour. The resulting medium-pressure superheated steam is sent to the existing steam turbines of the Aktobe CHPP for secondary generation of electricity.[9]

Thus, the use of combined cycle technology guarantees combined energy production and maximum fuel efficiency, and also increases the environmental friendliness and efficiency of the power plant.[9]

The commissioning of the gas treatment and fuel supply system for the new gas turbine unit of Aktobe CHPP - installation supervision, commissioning, individual and integrated tests, as well as training of operating personnel is carried out by specialists from ServiceENERGAS (ENERGAS Group), a Russian manufacturer and supplier of process equipment for gas treatment (upstream, midstream) and gas compression.[9] In November 2022, commissioning of the gas turbine began, and the unit was considered officially launched[10].
