Background

In 2023, Al Diyar Company for Cement Industry and Industrial Investment announced it would construct a 2 million tonne per year cement plant near Samawah.[3] The original plan was for the plan to be constructed as a partnership between Al Diyar and the Saudi company, Northern Region Cement Company, but that deal was cancelled in 2024 and the shares of Al Diyar purchased by Northern Region Cement Company.[4] While the plant was originally expected to open in late 2025, numerous delays resulted in construction being pushed back to 2026.[5][6]
