Background
In 2016, the British International Investment co-led an $83 million debt financing package for the Amandi power station.[7] The investment was awarded the PFI African Power Deal of the Year and the IJ Global African Power Deal of the Year 2016.[7]
In April 2017, Amandi Energy was preparing to construct the plant.[8]
The Amandi project was built to help alleviate Ghana’s power challenges, where insufficient cost-effective supply has resulted in regular outages.[8] The plant was constructed over a two-and-a-half-year period. It is expected to feed electricity to over 120,000 modern homes and businesses.[9] The project cost a total of $418 million in debt funding.[7] The debtors Include, Nedbank, OPIC, and RMB(South Africa).[7]
In 2019, the plant came online.[10]
