The Amera Coal Mine is operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, in the villages of Amera, Parsondi Kalan, Katkona, and Punputra in Tehsil Lakhanpur, District Sarguja, Chhattisgarh, India.

As of 2020, the mine is non-operational, producing 0 tonnes of coal.

Background on Mine

The Amera Opencast Coal Mine Project is sited on a mining lease area of 668.184 ha. The project received its environment clearance for a capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum on 22 February 2005.[1]

The mine proposed an expansion in 2015 but there have been no public statements regarding those developments and it was likely shelved and now cancelled.

According to SECL's annual report in 2022, Project is delayed due to delay in possession of land. Villagers resisting in disbursement of land compensation. 38% disbursement of compensation has been completed. The Project is likely to be completed in 2025-26.[2]
