Background
In December 2025, Amsons Group, a Tanzanian industrial conglomerate, and the Zambian energy firm Exergy Africa announced a partnership agreement to build a 300 MW coal-fired power station in Zambia. 1 GW of solar capacity was also included in the agreement. US$300 million was reportedly expected to be allocated to the coal power project, which was slated to be completed within two years. Reporting on the announcement did not mention the location of the proposed coal plant within Zambia.[2][3][4]
