Background

Founded in 2009, the ArcelorMittal Resende plant is a mini-mill, creating steel primarily from scrap metal in an electric arc furnace. The plant specializes in rebar, wire rod, and drawn steel for use in civil construction, industry, and agribusiness.

The plant was originally owned by Brazilian steelmaker Votorantim Siderurgia. In February 2017, ArcelorMittal and Votorantim announced plans to combine their long steel operations in Brazil. Under the deal, concluded in April 2018, Votorantim Siderurgia became a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal Brasil.
