Atlantic Energy Ventures gasification plant
In January, 2008, Platts reported that Atlantic Energy Ventures was planning to build a coal gasification plant in Lawrence County, Ohio.[1] The project will convert gasified coal into ammonia, urea, and other fertilizers. The plant will also use a cogeneration process to produce about 100 MW for internal use, but according to company president William Martin told Platts that the output could be doubled to 200 MW (including 100 MW sold wholesale), "if the numbers work for us...."[2]
This project is also known as the Irontron plant.
In September 2010, the Sierra Club reported that AEV had allowed its existing Certificate of Public Need and Necessity from the Ohio Power Siting Board to expire at the end of July 2010, indicating that the project had been abandoned.[3]
