Background

In 2012, Azikel Power was incorporated and competed in Nigeria's government privatization of the first 10 IPPs in Nigeria.[7]

In 2015, Azikel Power Limited was licensed for on-grid power generation for 500 MW. The first phase of Azikel Power generation includes constructing highly efficient, low-emission, open-cycle gas turbines powered by gas and heavy fuel oil.[8]

Azikel Power is streamlined to take advantage of the Nigerian Government Gas Master Plan that is promoting new gas-fired power plants to help reduce gas flaring and provide much-needed electricity generation for the country.[7]It is constructing the power plant in three phases.

Phase 1, constitute of a Simple Cycle: 2 x 38 MW – heavy-duty GT (frame 6 engine) = 76 MW.[9]

Phase 2, constitute of a Simple Cycle: 2 x 125 MW – frame 9 engines GT = 250 MW.[9]

Phase 3, constitute of a Combined Cycle: 2 HRSG + 2 ST = 38 MW ST + 125 MW ST = 163 MW.[9]

In 2030, the plants’ three units are expected to come online.[10]
