Background
The project was initially intended to be commissioned by 201, with state-owned Société de Production d'Electricité à partir du Gaz (SPEG) to own and operate it.[3] However, the project was cancelled in 2015 before it could move forward. In 2021, the project was revived with New Fortress Energy signing an MOU with the Mauritanian government to establish a new 120 MW plant, as well as supply it with "fast" LNG.[12][9] The power plant is expected to be supplied with LNG from Mauritania's large offshore gas reserves.[13]
