The Basra-Ceyhan Gas Pipeline is a proposed gas pipeline in Iraq and Türkiye.

Location

The pipeline would run from Basra, in southern Iraq, to the port city of Ceyhan, Türkiye.[1]

Project Details

  • Capacity: 5 bcm/year[2]
  • Status: Proposed[1]

Background

In April 2025, Türkiye announced it was advancing plans for a major energy partnership with Iraq, including the construction of a natural gas pipeline from Basra, Iraq, to the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan, Türkiye. The proposed route would see energy resources, including up to 5 bcm/year of natural gas, being transported from Basra to Haditha (Iraq) to Silopi (Türkiye) and onto the export terminal at Ceyhan (Türkiye). In the short term, Türkiye said it intended to supply natural gas to Iraq for electricity generation, with plans to eventually reverse flow and export Iraqi gas to global markets via Türkiye. It was also reported that the segment from Silopi to Ceyhan was already in the planning phase.[1][2]
