Background

Batu Hijau power station is a 112 MW coal-fired power station located at the Batu Hijau copper and gold mine.[4][5]

The Batu Hijau power station provides electricity solely for mining operations at the Batu Hijau copper and gold mine. The 112 MW coal plant is supported by nine diesel-powered generators. The plant uses approximately 500,000 tons of coal per year, 70% of which is supplied by PT Adaro Energy Tbk, with the remaining 30% supplied by PT Kideco Jaya Agung, a subsidiary of PT Indika Energy Tbk.[6]

A May 2023 report discussing the Batu Hijau mine indicated that the coal-fired power station would be retired when a new "combined-cycle gas power plant and LNG storage and regasification terminal at Benete Bay" was completed in 2024.[7]
