Background

In July 2020, Net4Gas' 2021-2030 investment plan set out the company's intention to postpone and scale back gas interconnection projects with Poland and Austria as these projects were not included in the European list of projects of common interest (PCI). The BACI project that was expected in 2024 was "halted" but may be replaced by a smaller project due to be ready in 2026.[6][7]

Net4Gas told Reuters "the current 10-year plan does not expect the BACI and STORK II projects in their earlier planned form," and that the plan did not include the alternative possibilities.[6]

In 2014, the project was awarded a €41,993 grant from the Connecting Europe Facility for preparatory studies.[5]

European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) listed this project as TRA-A-133 in their 2020 iteration of the proposed project details for the EU.[1] The publication notes that the project has "reacted" to the capacity market study completed by NET4GAS and Gas Connect Austria in 2019, and features a new identification number of TRA-N-60.[8]

The project appeared under the name "Czech-Austrian Interconnection" in the 2022 ENTOG Ten Year Development Plan under the codes TRA-N-1059 and TRA-N-600. The project was dropped from the 2024 TYNDP and there has been no updates on the project since 2022. The project is presumed shelved.[9][10]
