Background
Black Butte/Leucite Hills Mine is a surface coal mine located 38 miles east of Rock Springs, Sweetwater County, Wyoming. The mine produces sub-bituminous coal. The mine is operated by Black Butte Coal Company, a joint venture by Level III/Anadarko. Coal is transported to MidAmerican Energy/Berkshire Hathaway's Jim Bridger Steam Plant.[12] In November 2011 Ambre Energy said it bought a 50 percent interest in the Black Butte mine.[13]
