Background
The Boca Chica power station was originally proposed as a floating power plant to be installed on a barge near Boca Chica, Santo Domingo province, Dominican Republic.[6] The plant was subject to significant opposition in the community of Boca Chica[7], prompting plant owner Karpowership Dominican Republic SAS to consider relocating the project to Azua.[8] Citizens concerned about the plant's impact on mangroves, fish, and other elements of the natural environment have continued to protest development of the plant in Azua.[8][9]
