Background
The CCC El Sauz II power station is one of several new combined cycle power projects initiated during the six-year term of Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024).
Official government estimates of the plant's capacity have ranged from 256 MW[11][12] to 271 MW[13] to 277.93 MW.[12]
Construction got underway in September 2021 and was expected to be completed by March 2024.[11] The project was said to be 94.52% complete as of Dec 31, 2023[12], and 99.32% complete by September 2024.[11]
In September 2024, sources announced that the plant was ready to start test operations[11], with full commercial operations expected to begin by January 31, 2025.[11][14]
